When selecting a wood floor, there are several types to choose from. Laciudaddel Wood Floors offers all these floor types from various
manufacturers:
Strip
Plank
Solid
Engineered
Laminates
Strip flooring is flooring that is 3" wide or less.
Plank floors are 4" wide or more. Please talk to a Laciudaddel Wood Floors
representative about the concerns of a wide plank floor in Michigan's climate.
Typically a solid strip floor is the most common. It is solid wood all
of the way through.
Engineered floors are several pieces of wood glued together with heat & pressure in different directions to minimize
the amount of expansion & contraction in the hardwood floor. Engineered or laminates are the only floors that may be
installed below grade (in basements). Engineered floors typically expand & contract less throughout the changing
seasons.
Laminate Floors are a mix of fiberboard and "laminate" on the top and bottom. The color and grain of each piece is usually
computer generated to look like wood. Hardwood Floors are a product of nature, which means there can be some inconsistencies
and variation. Laminate floors are man-made.
Solid Hardwood Floors are more expensive and thus laminates are an economical alternative with many great features, including ease of
installation. However, Solid Hardwood Floors may be refinished and recoated several times where laminate and some
engineered floors may not. All types of wood flooring are available in an endless variety of colors and designs. Laminate and
pre-finished floors are better suited to the “do it yourself-er” as they are less labor intensive and require fewer specialty tools.
